Dear visitor.

With this page formatted as a restoration journal, we offer you the possibility to follow step by step a work in progress in our workshop. The updates will thus come according to the advance of the subject covered, until its completion. The entire project will then be visible for about a month before being replaced by a new one.
Like for a newspaper, the old numbers will remain available (if the request exists) at the price of an empty CD and the forwarding costs. So you will be able to better discover our working methods, our quality or simply to get some advice and ideas to undertake the restoration or the preparation of your car.
Whether you are a potential client or simply a car enthusiast, do not hesitate to consult us (preferably by mail). We will not fail to advise you as well as possible, but be understanding as injection, lighting or nose gear problems can’t be solved on the phone, specialized tools are necessary and can never be replaced, even by the best explanations!

Back restoration block and power plant on Turbo 2

Eric A. . informed collector and R5 Turbo fan has been the lucky owner of the car illustrated here for over ten years, ten years of faithful service (on many circuits and historical rally roads) that no betrayal (translate breakdown) came to sully. However the weight of the years and of the kilometers are now starting to be felt so Eric decided on our advice to have a large engine assessment done as well as a check of all the elements related to its functioning (water, oil and gasoline circuits), and also a decent repainting of the back compartment

Phase 1 restoration of the back block

As always, the colour of origin (black starting from 84 models on), once the mechanical parts were removed, proved to be a thin and almost symbolical coating, which had been applied quite haphazardly. Though it was shabby and didn’t offer much protection, rust has not yet committed its crimes and the few zones which it has started to attack will be easily treated. However the internal faces of the wheel passages and the vaults of the shock absorbers will have to partially put off blackson and oxidation will have to be eliminated, which had not been planned for at the beginning.

All the mechanics, the rear wheel-axle unit, the electrical looms, the gasoline, oil and water circuits (including the tanks, invisible on these photographs) have been removed. The brushes, scourers and other grinders will now be able to get in on the action.

The painter now has the stage; after taping, a primary phosphate layer (which has good anti-rust capacity) is applied, including "where no one will check". The care taken at this stage conditions for a great part the quality of the final result (read its behaviour in time).

The same care is taken for the protection against gravel, in its appliance as well as in the quality of the selected product. On this photo, you can note that an error was made on the fixings of the lower arm. Though the front part is correct (the protection has not yet been removed) the back part is too small and does not cover the second screw. No one is perfect and this defect will of course be taken care of before the restoration resumes.

With a high temperature matt black paint which will ensure a work of lasting quality, and silver details on the body to be fashionable, the car goes back to the workshop to be reassembled, since the restoration of the engine and its accessories has begun, but this will be the subject of our next report.
