Since the size of the file for this journal has to be reasonable, we will spare you the photographic evidence
of certain obvious stages such as the "surgical" cleaning of all the parts. The latter is carried out after complete disassembling obviously, but the various stoppers are also taken off, in particular those of the oil ducts (in the red circle on the photograph). Flue brushes of all sizes and degreasing under pressure are of course part of the process. Valves levers shaft, oil pump etc... are naturally entirely disassembled to be controlled and washed. Once the block is clean, the camshaft bushes are replaced then properly reamed, small machinings between block and liner are realised in order to improve cooling. The block is then cleaned again, repainted and finally ready for reassembly.

| For a better effectiveness, the guidance of the bevel gear in the crankshaft is modified by replacing the bronze ring by a bearing after machining of the housing. The crankshaft can then be installed after measurement and adjustment of the side lash. The pistons of origin are re-used, which may seem surprising to many of you, but the legendary quality of the "Malhé" parts, a reasonable mileage as well as a meticulous control fully justify this choice. Segments and liners are on the other hand replaced for new ones, SG cast iron (spheroid graphite) advantageously replacing steel for the liners (it offers a better coefficient of friction, hence an increased longevity for an equivalent mechanical resistance). |

| In this case, the heights of pistons are not modified, the volume of the combustion chambers on the cylinder head offering a satisfying compression ratio, after we chose an adapted thickness for the cylinder head gasket. |

The entirely decarbonized cylinder head must imperatively receive new valves
for the exhaust as well as for the admission. After control of the plash guide/valve,
grinding of the seats in three angles, a light old-fashioned grinding is carried out,
confirming at the same time the correct centering of the valve mating surfaces.

The sets liner/piston, the oil pump (after we controlled its wear and put in a new spring)
as well as the camshaft (200CV version was confirmed when we checked the diagram) are assembled.
The entirely new distribution is fixed and the casings are posed![]() |

The cylinder head gasket and the cylinder head itself are positioned
(note the small tool for centering) with all the required precision; the engine can finally "be closed".

We installed the cylinder head, Valves levers shaft which were checked beforehand,
we tightened the whole thing to the prescribed torque load. To facilitate the installation
of the shaft, we placed the pushrods last after having loosened the adjustating screws
by inserting the valves using a lever.
Once the head-cylinders cover is installed, the engine will receive its accessories and equipment, but that will be the subject of our next issue |
